On April 26, 2020 David, Jack and Matt created a hole in the bedrock on the Castles & Casinos & Villages server, opening up into the void below.
The hole is located deep in an old mine near spawn, somewhere in the maze of corridors and tunnels.
Method
We used the method described in this video to create the hole. It worked in the overworld at the time of the breach. It took many tries but eventually worked.
There were some challenges finding a portion of the bedrock where the mechanism required could fit. However some TNT made light work of the stone around the bedrock and the location was found. After that the machine was constructed and brave souls took turns attempting to place blocks fast enough to break the bedrock.
Into the Void
There are no known incidents of individuals unintentionally falling into the hole. However David did jump into the hole knowing he could never return the same way he came. This is the first known death by falling out of the world in the overworld, not counting times /kill was used.
