The Whiteout Room was a project by David and Matt. It is a very disorienting room to be in.
Please note that the map render does not display item frames so the room appears to just be glowstone in the render. To see the real thing, please download the map and check it out for yourself.
Planning and Preparation
This was achieved by creating a completely white map and item frames. It required a 128x128 block area of a completely white block on the same y level.
We created this with snow golems after flattening the entire area and covering the water. It took a lot of patience. The area was also surrounded by iron bars to keep mobs and players from disrupting it.
Construction
The room itself is 10x10 and was constructed with item frames backed by glowstone, this was prior to glow item frames being added into the game. The entrance was through a cave near a small pond at spawn. Below are some pictures of the progress.
