The Nether Tunnels were a community project constructed by Matt during the Winter Spawn server. They were the primary means of transportation on the server, connecting up to many of the players, as well as other key locations including the Community Blaze Farm. In total, the tunnels covered a 639x606 surface area, linking up a 5112x4848 area in the overworld.

Background

The tunnels were created using a polished blackstone structure, basalt roofing, glass walls, and a crimson/warped plank decor. Packed ice was lain along the center of the tunnels allowing for quicker travel. The original intent was to utilize the nether tunnels for boat travel, this was scrapped when magma slime spawning became too intrusive, and the ice was covered in warped plank slabs.

Trivia

  • As a result of this project, the Winter Spawn world marks the only time Matt's most mined block wasn't stone (16,530), with netherrack (45,847) almost eclipsing that count threefold.
